Christ the Redeemer Statue, Mount Corcovado, Brazil

Christ the Redeemer, Portuguese Cristo Redentor, epic statue of Jesus Christ at the summit of Mount Corcovado, Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil. It was done in 1931 and stands 98 feet (30 meters) tall, its dependably outstretched arms spreading more than 92 feet (28 meters). The statue, made of oversaw bond clad in a mosaic of unending soapstone tiles, sits on a square stone stage base around 26 feet (8 meters) high, which itself is moved toward a deck on the mountain's summit.
